There is no limit as to how many dogs you may own in the Town, but they must all be licensed. They must not be running at large or barking continuously so as to disturb other residents.
How to Licence Your Pet
As set out in the Provincial Offences Act - Part 1, the fines for failure to license your dog, failing to affix the dog tag, or affixing the dog tag onto the incorrect dog, and more are $125.00 fine per violation. Untagged dogs that are picked up are taken to the pound where there will be a charge to retrieve your pet (re: By-Law #15-57).
Annual dog tags are $25.00 each up to and including March 31st. On April 1 the cost increases to $35.00 per tag. Replacement tags can be purchased for $5.00. Tags can be purchased online through DocuPet (https://erin.docupet.com/en_CA/dog-licence), or over the phone by contacting DocuPet at 1-855-249-1370, or in person at Town Hall.
Cat Licenses are currently voluntary and can also be purchased through DocuPet for $25.00 per cat.
Boarding or Breeding for Sale
If you are boarding or breeding dogs for sale, then you must have the proper zoning on your property and operate under an annually renewable kennel licence. If the property does not have the proper zoning, a zoning amendment must be applied for.
Please complete the kennel licence application form and submit it to clerks@erin.ca or in-person at Town Hall.
Kennel Fees:
If purchased up to and including March 31st, each year: $150.00
If purchased after March 31st, each year: $200.00
