Staff establish alternate play space during construction period
Town of Erin staff will be moving the playground equipment at Lions Club Park in Erin Village over to Carberry Park to ensure local children have access to a play area over the next two summers during construction of the wastewater treatment plant pump house.
Construction crews required additional space at Lions Club Park due to site accessibility conflicts during the installation of a pumping station in the corner of the lot.
A number of trees, as well as the existing playground equipment needed to be removed from the property in order to allow more space for contractors working on the project.
In the meantime, Town staff will be moving the existing play structures from Lions Club Park to Carberry Park over a two-week period, when weather allows.
"Staff came up with a workable solution to the closure of Lion's Park, and we hope that many residents will be able to use the expanded playground at Carberry Park until the completion of the pumping station work," said Erin Mayor Michael Dehn.
When construction is complete at Lion’s Club Park, a new playground will be installed, along with a new pavilion and several trees.
“After a review of all available options, the Town has found that Carberry Park will provide a good alternative to the closing of Lion’s Park,” said Councillor Bridget Ryan. “The Carberry Park location is relatively easy for families to access and will provide a needed upgrade to the existing park and playground. Our Parks & Rec Staff did a great job of addressing residents’ concerns quickly, and we all appreciate that.”
Carberry Park is located approximately 1.8 km away from Lions Club Park, off Dundas Street West in Erin Village.
“Having a playground available to our children and parents is vital to both physical and mental health. Utilizing another space during this disruption is very important to Erin village,” said Coun. Jamie Cheyne.
