EW-CS Thank you to Fire & Emergency Services Station 10

Date: Dec 16, 2014

Letter from EW-CS to Town of Erin Fire & Emergency Services

EWCS: Food & Fund Drive - Thank You!

Good Afternoon Dan,

It is hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner!

What is even harder to believe is that there are local families and individuals who can’t look forward to the season because of their personal circumstance and means that have them already stretched to meet basic needs including food, heat, hydro and housing before the added challenges of the holidays in being able to provide gifts or a special holiday meal for their family, leaving them feeling alone or isolated from experiencing the joy and magic of Christmas.

...But that’s where our Erin Station 10 Fire Fighters stepped in and over the last 10 years, have worked with our agency to make the holidays brighter for those we support in our community so everyone will have enough to eat and that we will have the resources to keep our food bank shelves stocked well into the New Year.

The very first Food and Fund Drive started in 2004 and collected 612 toys, 1200 pounds of food and raised $1,350...forward 10 years to today, and the Food and Fund Drive has become a huge event for EWCS, filling up our food bank shelves keeping them well stocked into the New Year. This year, Station 10 Fire Fighters collected 3,600 pounds of food and raised an amazing $4,260 in funds! That will go a long way in helping our neighbours in need!

The total over the 10 years this event has been coordinated are incredible and speak to the caring and commitment of our local fire fighters to help everyone in our community who need it most. Over the last 10 years, Station 10 has collected 3,842 toys, 26,300 pounds of food and $28,014 in donations. We couldn’t do what we do without their support over these years – it means so much to so many in our community.

The impact of this food and fund drive by Station 10 Fire Fighters each year is far reaching and the generous donations received from our community is simply tremendous. We couldn’t do what we do to provide support to those who need it most through our food bank and Christmas hamper program without the significant contributions of this annual event.

To Charles, Laurence and everyone at Station 10– you go above and beyond every year and this year was no exception. From working with community partners, including  Marc’s Valu-Mart, and other local businesses, organizing food collections and drop offs, to the collection at the Santa Claus parade with the custom red van this year...and so many other tasks associated with this drive...thank you – it means so much to everyone here at East Wellington Community Services and to all those in our community who rely on us so they have enough food to eat.

Dan – please share this note with all of our friends at Station 10, the Town of Erin staff and council members and those who have worked with Station 10 to make this such a huge success on our behalf. We cannot thank everyone enough, especially Laurence and Charles and so many individuals in our community and within Station 10, for their continued support and coordination of this food and fund drive for East Wellington Community Services. Hats off to everyone!

Wishing you, and our Fire Fighters and Families at Station 10 in Erin, a very Merry Christmas and all the best for a happy and healthy New Year in 2015.

Warm Regards,

Councillor John Brennan commented:Fantastic job by all involved!

Mayor Al Alls also commented:  I echo Councillor Brennan's comments and as EWCS was a former charge of mine I really appreciate and understand the job the firefighters do for unfortunate members of our Town.

Good work and well done!
