The Town of Erin is rescoping the Erin Elora-Cataract Trail water and wastewater linear works from the larger project and retendering the linear trail portion of the work.
Director of Infrastructure and Town Engineer Brian Kavanagh said recent environmental requirements requested by Credit Valley Conservation necessitated that the trail work be rescoped.
“Credit Valley Conservation has requirements that the Town must meet. For example, they are requiring a certain type of culvert that was not in the original project. Accordingly, we were required to rescope the trail portion of the project,” said Kavanagh.
The Elora-Cataract Trail between Trafalgar Road in Hillsburgh and Main Street in Erin will remain closed to the public in preparation of laying water and wastewater pipes under the trail that will connect Hillsburgh to the existing municipal water system and the new wastewater treatment plant.
Once the infrastructure installation is complete, the trail will be improved to a better condition than before the work started, and all trees that were removed will be replaced with approximately four times as many trees. In all, approximately 20,000 trees will be planted back onto the trail and other properties within the town. An open-cut (trench) construction method is required for the installation of the water and wastewater pipes along the trail, requiring that the work zone portion of the trail be closed for safety during construction.
