OVERVIEW OF POSITION

This position is responsible for performing general operations of the Infrastructure Services Business Unit during the winter season. It includes road and equipment operations and maintenance, operating light and heavy equipment, and following all safety procedures, legislation, and Town policies. The position requires knowledge of safety procedures and legislation, ability to operate light and heavy equipment, and physical ability to work in winter conditions.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Ontario Class “D” Driver’s License and “Z” endorsement in good standing required.
  • Three years of related equipment operator experience, preferably in a municipal environment providing winter maintenance services.
  • Knowledge of construction, roads maintenance and operations, traffic control procedures, equipment maintenance and operation, MECP and MTO Regulations/Guidelines and relevant legislation.
  • Strong working knowledge of municipal road maintenance.
  • Successful completion of O.S.S.D is preferred.
  • Courses in T.J Mahony Road School and/or C.S Anderson Road School strongly preferred.
  • Training in Transportation of Dangerous Goods, traffic control certification, chain saw certification, and working at heights, confined space entry certification would be considered assets.
  • Willingness to perform manual labor when necessary.
  • Criminal record check.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Ability to operate a grader, or willingness to learn.
  • Proven ability to operate single or tandem trucks with attachments such as salt and sand spreader, snowplow equipment, 4-wheel drive front-end loader, motor grader, and tractor.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT

  • This position requires a standard 40-hour workweek with availability for evening, weekend, holiday shifts, and on-call duties;
  • Must be capable of reporting to town hall within 45 minutes of a callout;
  • Overtime may be required as per operational needs;
  • Working conditions may involve exposure to inclement weather;
  • The salary for this position is $31.56/hour;
  • Physical demands include standing, sitting, and walking on construction sites with a need for visual attention to comply with health and safety regulations. Physical dexterity is necessary for tasks such as bending and minimal lifting;
