OVERVIEW OF POSITION

Reporting to the Manager of Recreation and Culture, the Recreation Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of programs and services that meet the needs of a diverse and changing community. This position ensures the effective and efficient operation of programs, while promoting high-quality customer service and fostering community engagement.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, implement, and manage recreation programs that address the diverse needs and interests of the community.
  • Leverage data and emerging trends to guide program development and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain high program standards by establishing and monitoring policies, procedures, and evaluation mechanisms
  • Play a key role in recruitment, training, supervision, and performance evaluation of program staff and volunteers.
  • Provide regular performance feedback, coordinate staff scheduling, and manage accurate payroll processing.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and risk management protocols across all programs and facilities.
  • Develop and implement safety procedures, including adherence to HIGH FIVE standards and other quality assurance frameworks.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of program and facility quality to identify systemic challenges and enhance participant satisfaction.
  • Promote programs and services through effective community engagement strategies.
  • Address customer inquiries and resolve conflicts professionally while cultivating strong community partnerships.
  • Create and collaborate with marketing teams on promotions and materials.
  • Contribute to long-term strategic planning and support initiatives focused on revenue generation and program sustainability.
  • Conduct research to support innovative and cost-effective programming.
  • Provide oversight and logistical support for special events, ensuring alignment with community interests and organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with user groups and community partners to develop inclusive programming that reflects the evolving needs of a growing population.
  • Undertake special projects and perform other related duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in recreation programming or related roles.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C certification.
  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development and HIGH FIVE Quest 2 certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to supervise and motivate a diverse team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, recreation management software, and social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation.
  • Current and acceptable vulnerable sector police record check.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT

  • This position works 35 hours a week, 8:30 am-4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, Flexibility to work evenings and weekends or on-call hours required.
  • The annual compensation for this position is Grade 7, $84,863 - $99,278.
  • The Town offers an excellent comprehensive benefit package, and participation in the Ontario Municipal Employee Retirement Scheme (OMERS) pension plan.
