Town of Erin Council receives report on governance and service delivery

ERIN, ON: The Town of Erin Council today received a report titled Governance Review, prepared by Watson & Associates. The report analyzes how the Town’s services are currently delivered and compares them against potential efficiencies that may be gained through various other service delivery models. The report does not suggest or recommend any specific course of action.

The report is an exploratory effort to analyze and review options for the best possible service delivery for Erin residents, while maintaining value for the tax dollar contributed.

A copy of the report has been provided to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and, as next steps, based on Council decision Town staff will begin dialogue with the Province, Wellington County and other municipal stakeholders to explore ways to save taxpayers’ dollars as identified in the Governance Review.

Background:

The Town of Erin received a Modernization Grant provided by the Province of Ontario in 2019. As part of the funding grant – the Town hired Watson & Associates to undertake a Governance Review to evaluate and analyze the Town’s governance and the delivery of service and compare them against various other options for providing best value for Erin taxpayers. The Watson report analysis is based on the 2019 Town of Erin and various other municipalities’ Financial Information Return and review of alternative scenarios that show significant savings for our taxpayers on an annual basis.
