Celebrate Earth Day April 27 at Centre 2000

Date: Apr 02, 2024

The Town of Erin’s Environment and Sustainability Advisory Committee (ESAC) is hosting an Earth Day event on April 27 at Centre 2000 to celebrate and raise awareness about local environmentalism.

“Climate change can be an overwhelmingly big topic to cope with, but Earth Day events give us an opportunity to focus on and learn more about making our little part of the world a better place for all of us,” said Erin councillor John Brennan, council representative member of ESAC.

The committee has organized a garbage clean-up from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a barbecue for volunteers.

Those who collect trash can bring their bags to Centre 2000, or pick up a trash bag and a garbage picking stick at the site. Participants will then be given a ticket for a hamburger or hotdog and entered in a raffle draw.

The Committee will also be handing out 100 trees from the County of Wellington’s Green Legacy Program at 12:30 p.m., while supplies last.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be several vendors and craft tables at Centre 2000 to showcase green initiatives and environmentally-friendly products, as well as fun activities for children.

Messy Labs will be running an activity table and there will even be opportunities to test drive an electric vehicle.

“We’re living through a pretty dire time. Climate change is real. It’s distressing,” said ESAC member, Abel Page. “Earth Day is a great celebration to show that we can all make a difference.”
