Garbage & Recycling

 

The County of Wellington looks after all Solid Waste Services within the Town of Erin.

The County is responsible for garbage and recycling pick up (all Solid Waste Services) in the Town of Erin/County of Wellington as well as the operation of the transfer stations where residents can bring their garbage and recycling. 
 
The Hillsburgh Transfer Station CLOSED May 1st, 2010 at 4:00 p.m.
 
Weekly urban pickup will continue as usual.
 
BI-WEEKLY RURAL PICK-UP began Thursday, May 6th.  Recycling and garbage must be put out by 7 am on the pickup day and must be in "yellow" County garbage bags -  $1.75 per large bag and $1 per small bag (sold in packages of 10).  Bags can be purchased at Hillsburgh Foodland, TimBR Mart, Erin ValuMart and Erin Budson Store, Erin Express Variety & Video and at Brisbane Corner Gas?PetroCan.
 
Large items can be taken to any County Waste facility (the clopsest site is the Belwood Transfer Station). 
 
 
The Belwood site is located at 8585 Wellington Road 19 in the Township of Centre Wellington, just west of Wellington Rd. 26 - turn left at the stop sign at the top of Belwood village.
 
 
Town of Erin residents can take their waste to any of the County sites. For location and hours of operation please contact contact the County of Wellington at (519) 837-2601 or toll free at 1-866-899-0248. (if you are experiencing difficulty, please hit "0" and an operator will assist you).
 
Garbage and recycling pick up in our URBAN areas is on Thursdays. Please have your garbage and recycling at the curb by 7:00 a.m. In order for garbage to be picked up it must be placed in the yellow County of Wellington garbage bags. These garbage bags are available for sale at local grocery stores for $17.50 for 10 large bags and $10.00 for 10 small bags.

Please check out the County website for more information at www.wellington.ca or call the number noted above. Blue boxes for recycling are available at the Town Office at no charge, limit of two per household. Please make sure to put your address on your blue boxes so that they can find their way home after a windy day. If you are not in a pick-up area, you can take your recyclables to the Transfer Station.
 
Private contractors can be hired to pick up rural garbage.
